Tetris Effect – a puzzle video game developed by Japanese studios Monstars and Resonair and published by Enhance Games. A PlayStation 4 version with PlayStation VR support was released on November 9, 2018, and a Windows version with Oculus Rift and HTC Vive support was released on July 23, 2019.

Tetris Effect was in development since 2012 and was inspired by the original game. Co-producer Tetsuya Mizuguchi had wanted to make a music game for Tetris for years, but its licensing was handled by Electronic Arts, making it difficult to use. Around 2012, Mizuguchi began discussing making Tetris Effect with Henk Rogers, the founder of The Tetris Company, which now owns the rights to the game, which led to the game’s development beginning.[6] The game was released on November 9, 2018. A Microsoft Windows version with support for Oculus Rift and HTC Vive VR systems was released on the Epic Games Store on July 23, 2019.

The game is also compatible with the PlayStation VR headset.

Like the original Tetris game, the player must place tetrominoes on the board to clear full lines. Tetris Effect adds themes and music to thirty different levels, with gameplay tied to the rhythm of the music. The “Zone” mechanic allows players to place multiple blocks at once, allowing them to clear more than sixteen lines at a time, performing a “decahexatris.” It is possible to clear 20 lines at once, resulting in an ultimatris. The maximum number of lines that can be cleared at once is 22, called Impossibilitris. The game also includes a leveling system, which presents players with new challenges as they progress.
