1942 – a Japanese arcade game (a shooter) for video game consoles, home computers, and arcade machines, produced by Capcom.

The game was published by Capcom, Elite, Zafiro, and MCM between 1984 and 1987, 2000 and 2001, 2003, and 2010 and 2011, and was also released in various collections, such as Capcom Arcade Cabinet for the PlayStation 3.

The game takes place over the Pacific Ocean during World War II. The player takes on the role of an American pilot of a Lockheed P-38 Lightning[3] whose mission is to reach Tokyo. Along the way, he is hindered by Japanese aircraft such as Mitsubishi A6M Zeros, Kawasaki Ki-48s, and Ki-61s.

The player flies forward in a plane, tasked with eliminating enemy units one by one, and can also evade their attacks with a special maneuver. The locations they fly over include Midway, Marshall, Attu, Rabaul, Levte, Saiban, Iwo Jima, and Okinawa.

On July 24, 2008, a remake of 1942: Joint Strike was released, developed by Backbone Entertainment and published by Capcom for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

A sequel was released, 1943: The Battle of Midway.
