Dragon Quest (Japanese: ドラゴンクエスト, Doragon Kuesuto) – a console role-playing game series by Enix (since the merger with Square then Square Enix). The games have been released mainly in Japan for various game consoles, only a few parts have been released in the USA initially under the name Dragon Warrior, since the eighth part Dragon Quest. The creator and director of the series is Yūji Horii, and Akira Toriyama is responsible for final character design. The music is by Koichi Sugiyama.

In addition to the main series, where only Dragon Quest VII, Dragon Quest VIII, Dragon Quest IX, Dragon Quest XI and three reboots for the Nintendo DS (Dragon Quest IV, V and VI) were released in Europe, there are numerous offshoots , such as the “Dragon Quest Monsters” series, the first part of which was published by Eidos in the late 90s. In 2019, the 11th part of the series was released on the Nintendo Switch.

Dragon Quest has been strongly about keeping with tradition. All of them take place in the same European-style medieval world. All of them feature the same key staff members Horii, Toriyama, and Sugiyama. As a result, the method of storytelling, the characters, the battle system and the style of music is pretty much the same throughout. It’s a series that prides itself not only on familiarity and nostalgia, but also in its consistency.
