Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord – a computer role-playing game (RPG) developed by Andrew Greenberg and Robert Woodhead in 1980. The first game in the Wizardry series, the final version of the game was released in 1981.
The game was one of the first titles to be modeled after Dungeons & Dragons, and the first of its kind to offer color graphics. Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord was the first role-playing game to allow players to play as a full party of heroes.
The game ultimately became the first title in the original trilogy, which also included Wizardry II: The Knight of Diamonds and Wizardry III: Legacy of Llylgamyn.
The action begins in a city, where the player assembles a party of heroes consisting of up to six characters. During character creation, players can choose from five races (human, elf, dwarf, gnome, and hobbit), three personalities (good, neutral, and evil), and four basic classes (warrior, cleric, mage, and thief).
