Secret of Mana – an action role-playing game produced by Square and released in October 1993 on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System platform.
It was originally released in Japan on August 6, 1993 as Seiken Densetsu 2 (聖剣伝説,2). It is the sequel to the 1991 game Seiken Densetsu, released in North America as Final Fantasy Adventure and in Europe as Mystic Quest. It was the first title to be marketed as part of the Mana series rather than the Final Fantasy series. Using the multi-tap accessory, up to three players can play simultaneously. The game was re-released in 2008 for the Wii platform’s Virtual Console. A remake was released for PlayStation 4 and Steam (PC) on February 15, 2018, featuring 3D graphics and English and Japanese voice acting.
The main element of the plot is the Mana Tree – a tree from which selected people can draw power (mana). The player has three characters at their disposal, which they can control. Each of them has different skills and powers. The goal of the heroes is to save the Mana Tree from an unknown threat.
Story: Three boys from the spring village break the orders of the village elder and go to the nearby waterfall, which is said to contain a treasure. Randi, one of the three, trips and falls down the waterfall. There he finds an old, rusty sword stuck in a stone. An unknown voice tells him to pull it out and free it. When he frees the sword, monsters appear everywhere in the spring village and the surrounding area. The villagers see the removal of the sword as a bad sign and banish Randi from the spring village forever. An older knight named Gemma soon recognizes the sword as the legendary Mana Sword and urges Randi to visit the eight Mana Temples to reactivate the sword’s power. On his travels he eventually meets Prim and Popoi, who accompany him. Popoi initially tries to relieve Randi of his money, but sees him as a way to regain his memory. Prim, on the other hand, wants to find her great love Dulac, who went missing a few months ago.
