The Legend of Zelda – an action-adventure game, produced and published by Nintendo, designed by creators Shigeru Miyamoto and Takashi Tezuka. It was released on the Famicom Disk System in 1986 in Japan, and then in 1987 on the NES console in the USA. It is the first part of The Legend of Zelda console game series.
The main character of the game is a young boy, Link, who must recover an item called the Triforce of Wisdom and save the titular princess Zelda, who is in a deep sleep. The action takes place in a small kingdom in the land of Hyrule.
Link starts the adventure with only a shield, and you acquire a sword early on. As you play you can find or buy new weapons and items to use on your way. Various items can be used to attack enemies, blast open walls, restore health, and so on.
The gameworld is split into two: there is the large overworld map where you have to power yourself up and prepare yourself to take on the dungeons. The dungeons each house an item, a boss and a piece of the Triforce. Dungeons are filled with enemies and puzzles, testing all of your skills.
The game is also filled with hidden areas in both the overworld and dungeons, where you can buy items, get hints for where to go next, or even play games of chance. As you get more items, you are also able to access more hidden areas.
