Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars (Japanese: スーパーマリオRPG, Sūpā Mario RPG) – console RPG game released in 1996 on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES). It is the first Mario game in the role-playing genre.

It was developed by Square and distributed by the console and game manufacturer Nintendo. Super Mario RPG was only released in Japan and North America at the time. It was not until 2008 that it was released in Europe on the Virtual Console as a paid download for the Wii console.

The game is about Mario and his companions, who strive to stop Smithy, who has stolen seven star pieces from the Star Road. They want to get the companions back in order to restore the Star Road. Five characters are playable in the course of the story.

Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars was created under the direction of Yoshihiko Maekawa and Chihiro Fujioka, as well as Shigeru Miyamoto, who acted as producer. The soundtrack was composed by Yōko Shimomura.

The game is considered a model for other Mario role-playing games and the foundation of the Paper Mario and Mario & Luigi series. The game Paper Mario, which was the first Mario role-playing game after this one, was initially announced under the name Super Mario RPG 2, but was renamed before its release.

In November 2023, a remake of the game was released with the simplified name Super Mario RPG, which not only made graphic and acoustic revisions but also made slight changes to the gameplay.
