Wasteland – a role-playing game created by Interplay Entertainment and published by Electronic Arts in 1988 for Apple II, Commodore 64, Macintosh and PC computers.

The game takes place in the year 2087. After the outbreak of World War III, the appearance of Earth has changed significantly. A few people managed to survive in enclaves far from large cities. Groups of people who survived the war try to contact each other in order to rebuild the former glory of the human race. The player takes on the role of the paramilitary group Desert Rangers. Their task is to investigate strange events that have taken place in the desert.

The game was a direct inspiration for the creators of the Fallout series.
In 2014, the second part of the game was released on the market – Wasteland 2.

In 1990, the game Fountain of Dreams was released. It was intended to be a continuation of Wasteland. It was a game created by Electronic Arts without the involvement of Interplay and Brian Fargo. The game had a very similar engine, but the entire code was created from scratch by EA. In 2003, Electronic Arts dropped the association of this game with Wasteland.
